Pilot Certification

PAPI produces a world class paragliders and instructors who surpass the safety and standards set by the global community; integrates the sports to the Philippine education curriculum; and through its system, the sports become accessible to everyone, in general.

PL-1 = Student Beginner Pilot

PL-2 = Novice/Intermediate Soaring Pilot

PL-3 = Intermediate/Independent Pilot

PL-4 = Advance/Cross Country

T1 = Novice Tandem Pilot

T2 = Tandem Pilot

Inst-Instructor

Pilot level 1-PL1, Student Beginner

First level to becoming a paragliding pilot, all activities are done under an instructor's supervision:

-Take off, land and fly with radio communication 

-Understands all the gear and can set up on his/her own 

-Understands wind direction 

-Understands and can do the landing technique, landing pattern 

-Land in the decided area 

-Do figure 8-upwind and downwind position 

Pilot level 2-PL2, Novice/Intermediate 

As a pilot in progression learning more about weather conditions, take-off and landing in various conditions, equipment, aerodynamics and flying site local rules.

-Ridge soar without Radio guidance 

-Right of way rules 

-Manoeuvre with D line in case of brake failure 

-Understand weather analysis and timing cycles, lift band 

-Do manoeuvres such as big-ears, control with big ear, 360 turns 

-Fly without radio assistance 

-Understand personal limits, glider limits, weather, etc. 

-Manage glider to do pitch and roll 

-Minimum 20 flights in logbook 

Pilot level 3-PL3, Intermediate/Independent 

A pilot in the next level progression learning more about weather conditions, take-off and landing in various conditions, equipment, aerodynamics and flying site local rules.

-Flown in 2-3 different fly sites 

-200 flights and 100 hours in the logbook/1 year minimum experience

-Experience in top landing regularly (when applicable) 

-First aid training 

Pilot level 4-PL4, Cross Country/Performance

A PAPI PL-4 is an advanced pilot with a wide range of skills and knowledge. He shows a solid experience. This certification set for the next level skills and learning to the next tandem pilot and be professional.

-Flown in 10 different fly sites 

-Flew 2 cross country fly sites/minimum 10km distance each

-Thermal flying 

-Minimum 500 flights 

-Cross country certification 

Tandem Pilot 1-T1

The PAPI-T1 is a safe way to share your passion of flyingYou want to learn a safe way to share your passion of flying.  This is 5 days minimum course open to mature pilots that have PAPI PL-3 qualification.  SIV proof and first aid certification. At the end of the course, you will have solid knowledge about tandem operating, procedures, gear and attitude. You will also have a minimum of 10 tandem flights as a pilot under the control of an PAPI instructor.

-Flying tandems non-commercial 

Tandem Pilot 2-T2

The PAPI T2 is designed to produce tandem pilots with solid tandem skills and experience. They operate in a professional manner in any way, and among other points, they are able to work efficiently with a high safety level….

-This pilot is a professional tandem pilot and must be at least a PL-3 pilot 

-Done at least 40 tandem flights 

-Tandem flights in at least 3 different locations 

-Flown with 2 different gliders 

Instructor-Inst

PAPI Instructor have a high level of flying experience, knowledge and practical skills. Method of practice in teaching make a  solid choice to learn paragliding.

-a minimum of 4 years paragliding activity,
-a minimum of 40 tandem flights as pilot,
-a minimum of 15 students taught from first flights
-first aid certificate,

-10 to 15days total apprentice in a paragliding school
-proof of advanced SIV (video),
mandatory maneuvers:
- pitch control on dynamic spiral exit,
- side collapse, autorotation and recovery,
- stall, backfly, recovery
- spin min 180° + recovery,
- deep spiral damped exit.
